ABOUT THE UNIT
What we do
The Renal Disease Prevention (CKD) Unit leads the prevention, early detection and care of chronic kidney disease – a major public health concern in the North Central Province.
It is led by the Medical Officer (Renal Disease Prevention).
Location
Provincial Department of Health Services, North Central Province, Anuradhapura
Main functions
- Renal disease prevention activities across the province
- Supervising CKD prevention clinics and patient care services
- Equipment and laboratory supplies for CKD early-detection clinics
- Haemodialysis and other care facilities in provincial hospitals
- Annual action plan with the district units; data on disease prevalence and deaths
- Progress review meetings with district units
- Supervising laboratories in provincial hospitals
- Arranging donations of hospital equipment and drugs

Managed by the CKD Unit, with a Supervising Public Health Inspector as officer-in-charge.
- Care and support for kidney patients before and after admission to Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura for renal treatment
- Running the Central Laboratory of the RDHS Office, Anuradhapura
