Health information, monitoring & evaluation and digital health for the province.
ABOUT THE UNIT
HIMU & MNE
The Health Information Management Unit collects, analyses and reports health data from provincial institutions, monitors performance and supports digital health systems across the province.
The unit is led by the Medical Officer (Monitoring & Evaluation); the post of Specialist (Health Informatics) is currently vacant.
Location
Provincial Department of Health Services, North Central Province, Anuradhapura
Main functions
- Collecting data at institution level
- Conducting surveys, including the annual survey of medical equipment
- Research
- Data analysis
- Progress review meetings
- Providing information needed for planning
- Preparing the annual performance report

- Planned digital health work: hospital information systems (HHIMS, OpenMRS), DHIS2, telemedicine and mobile clinics, and e-learning for staff
- A new data-collection mechanism from all health programmes starts in 2026
