ABOUT THE UNIT
What we do
The Biomedical Engineering Unit manages medical equipment in provincial hospitals so that it is safe, available and working. It is headed by the Biomedical Engineer, D. Wanninayaka.
Location
Provincial Department of Health Services, North Central Province, Anuradhapura
Main functions
- Technical support for procurement of medical equipment
- Issuing, testing and installing new equipment, and training on its use
- Servicing, maintenance and repair of medical equipment
- Training doctors, nurses and staff on daily care and handling of equipment
- Supervising private parties who maintain and repair equipment
- Assisting in the disposal of medical equipment
- Continuous testing and calibration
- Updating the medical equipment management data system
- Preparing the annual biomedical engineering plan
