ABOUT THE UNIT
Planning for a healthier province
The Planning Unit of the Provincial Department of Health Services prepares the annual development plans of the department and monitors the physical and financial progress of every capital project carried out in provincial health institutions across Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts.
- Assessing needs, preparing development plans, monitoring, evaluating and reporting (PSDG, PCDG, Block Grant, ADB and other programmes)
- Sharing information on health services through the annual report, performance report and website
- Estimating monthly imprest requirements and reporting monthly progress
- Supervising human resource acquisition and projections
- Coordinating with the district planning units, Accounts Branch, Provincial Planning Department and Provincial Ministry of Health
- Coordinating disaster and emergency response
- Monthly progress review meetings with district planning units and the Provincial Engineering Department

Highlights from 2025
- A Power BI procurement dashboard now tracks about 280 projects worth Rs. 1.01 billion across all institutions
- A new software system was introduced for the Planning Unit
- A structured needs assessment for 2026 was collected through the dashboard
- Rs. 247.7 million is needed in 2026 to complete ongoing projects (Anuradhapura Rs. 171.6 Mn, Polonnaruwa Rs. 76.1 Mn)
